How to Convert Hours and Minutes to Decimal Time?

To convert 3:35:35 in the converter to the appropriate unit, let’s first convert it to hours, then to minutes, then to seconds. We will need to convert each part into the appropriate time unit.

Three hours, 35 minutes, 35 seconds is 2:35:35 hours, 45 minutes, 45 seconds. One hour is 60 minutes, and one minute is 60 seconds, so 60 minutes per hour multiplied by 60 seconds per minute makes 3600 seconds per hour or 1 hour is 3600 seconds.

To Convert Time to Just Hours

  • It is 3 hours * (1 hour/ 1 hour) = 3 hours
  • The 35-minute interval is 35 minutes x (1 hour / 60 minutes) = 35/60 hours = 0.58 hours
  • 35 seconds is 35 seconds * (1 hour / 3600 seconds) = 35/3600 hours = 0.00972 hours
  • Adding them all together we have 3 hours + 0.58 hours + 0.00972 hours = 3.58972 hours

To Convert Time to just Minutes

  • Taking 3 hours and (60 minutes / 1 hour) to get 180 minutes is 3 hours x 60 minutes
  • 35 minutes is 35 minutes * (1 minute / 1 minute) = 35 * 1 minutes = 35 minutes
  • 35 seconds is 35 seconds * (1 minute / 60 seconds) = 35/60 minutes = 0.58 minutes
  • Adding them all together we have 180 minutes + 35 minutes + 0.58 minutes = 215.58 minutes

To Convert Time to Seconds

  • Two hours is 3 hours * (3600 seconds / one hour) = 3 * 3600 seconds =10800 seconds
  • 35 minutes is 35 minutes * (60 seconds / 1 minute) = 35 * 60 seconds = 2100 seconds
  • In 35 seconds, 35 seconds * (1 second / 1 second) = 35 seconds * 1 second = 35 seconds
  • Adding them all together we have 10800 seconds + 2100 seconds + 35 seconds = 12935 seconds

How to use the Time Decimal Calculator?

It is very easy to use the time Decimal Calculator, below we have mentioned few simple steps:

  • Enter all three components of the time in decimal format; that is, hours, minutes, and seconds.
  • If the time does not contain minutes or seconds (for example, 2:30:00 has no seconds value), enter 0 for these components of the time. You can then use these values in any time-based calculations you need to perform.
  • After entering the numbers in Time format, for example, 2:30:55. Tap on the calculate button to convert it into decimal.

Time to Decimal Conversion Examples

First, let's convert 2:30:35 to decimal hours, minutes, and seconds. Then plug the decimal hours equation into the decimal minutes equation.

Decimal hours = 2 + (30 / 60) + (35 / 3600)

Decimal hours = 2 + 0.5 + 0.009722

Decimal hours = 2.0597 hr

Then use the decimal minutes formula to get the time in decimal minutes:

Decimal minutes = (2 * 60) + 30 + (35 / 60)

Decimal minutes = 120 + 30 + 0.5833

Decimal minutes = 150.58 min

Finally, the time in decimal seconds is:

Decimal seconds = (2 * 3600) + (30 * 60) + 35

Decimal seconds = 7200 + 1800 + 35

Decimal seconds = 9035 s
